How to teach Vocabulary
Using L.2.4 Second Grade Common Core Lesson, students determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases.
This lesson teaches students how to figure out the meaning of new words using their knowledge of prefixes. This lesson is perfect for small groups, literacy centers or independent practice.
Students will use prefix and base cards to create new words and then define the each new word. Then, students will continue their practice of capitalization using the activity sheet.

Introduce this lesson by asking students to come up with words that have the prefixes pre-, re- and un-. Next, students help you figure out what each of the prefixes mean. Then, students complete the activity independently or with a partner. Finally, students continue their practice using the provided worksheets.
