How to teach Vocabulary
Using this L.5.6 Fifth Grade Common Core Lesson, students match words to their specific categories to increase their vocabulary acquisition. Learning new words to add to their vocabulary is important for your students. Your students will build their vocabulary through using this lesson. Sort the words cards into categories (addition, compare, contrast, example, sequence, and summary). Write the words in the appropriate space on the worksheet. Write an example sentence using a word from each category.

Introduce this lesson by asking students to give examples of words that would fit in the category Television. Next, engage in a discussion about why those words fit in the category.
