How to teach Prepositions
Using L.5.1 Fifth Grade Common Core Lesson, students find prepositional phrases in order to add details and description to their writing.
This lesson teaches students how to include prepositional phrases into their writing to add description. This lesson is perfect for small groups, literacy centers or independent practice. Read the sentence on each laminated card. Using a wet- or dry-erase marker, underline each prepositional phrase. Record your answers on the worksheet. Some cards may have more than once prepositional phrase. Finally, students will continue their practice using the provided worksheets.

Use these Preposition Worksheets as an additional resource for your students.
Introduce this activity by showing a picture with lots of details. Ask your students questions that can be answered by the picture. Sample questions could be “What is below the ______?” or “Where is the ______?”. Your questions should require the use of a prepositional phrase. Then, students complete the activity independently or with a partner. Finally, students continue their practice using the provided worksheets. Once finished, challenge students to describe where items are in your classroom using prepositional phrases
