How to teach Prepositions

Using Showing Relationships Prepositions Activity, students find prepositional phrases in order to add description to their writing.

This activity teaches students how to include prepositions into their writing to add description.   This activity is perfect for small groups, literacy centers or independent practice.

Choose a Preposition Card. Next, students follow the directions to show relationships between words. Then, students practice using prepositions to describe objects in the classroom.

Introduce this activity by showing a picture with lots of details. Next, ask your students questions based on the picture. A sample question could be "What is below the ______?".  Then, students complete the activity independently or with a partner. Finally, challenge students to describe where items are in your classroom using prepositional phrases. Once finished, students draw picture of prepositions.
