Description
How to teach Research
Using W.5.7 Fifth Grade Common Core Lesson, students conduct short research projects that use several sources to build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic.
Building research skills is important for all students to do. This activity will help guide students’ research by giving them topics and categories to learn more about.
Students choose a topic card (rectangle) and four detail cards (oval). Use the note-taking paper to record your research sources and information on each detail. Use your notes to write a short essay or presentation about your topic.

Introduce this activity by posting one of the rectangle topic cards. Ask students what they know about this topic as well as questions they still have about the topic. Then, distribute activity materials so students can begin their research. Finally, students can share their research through a gallery walk or other presentation.
