How to teach Speaking and Listening
Using this SL.1.5 First Grade Common Core Lesson, students add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.
Being able to describe people, places, and ideas is important for your students to be clear communicators. This activity will give your student an opportunity to draw pictures to support their ideas.

Use this SL.1.4 First Grade Common Core Activity as an additional resource for your students.
Introduce this lesson by writing a sentence on the board. Examples could be “The dog jumped over the cat” or “The plate was full of food”. Next, students explain how pictures help them as they read and explain their thoughts. Then, students complete activity independently or with a partner. Finally, students share their drawings with the class.
