Using this K.G.4 Kindergarten Common Core Lesson, students analyze and compare two- and three-dimensional shapes by sorting them into similar groups.
Being able to find similarities between shapes will help your students when they begin to classify shapes. This lesson gives your students practice with naming and sorting shapes.
Students analyze and compare two- and three-dimensional shapes. Then, discuss which shape the object represents. Finally, sort the shapes into similar groups.

You may introduce this lesson by reviewing shape names using the Shape Flash Cards. Next, have students share names of shapes that they remember from the review. Then, students sort objects into categories. As students work, listen to their discussions to promote shape skills. Push them to explain why they chose to put specific objects in each category. Finally, challenge students to sort objects in the classroom into the provided categories.
