How to teach Graphing
Using this 1.MD.4 First Grade Common Core Lesson, students count the amount of fruits and vegetables to record them on a graph.
In this lesson, students will practice collecting data and recording data on a graph. This lesson can be done in as a full class, math centers, in partners or individually.
First, sort your cards into three categories- pumpkins, apples and grapes. Then, count how many of each you have. Finally, record your totals on your graph! Continue your practice by reading a graph about balloons and cupcakes!

Introduce this lesson by asking students what it means to graph.Next, create a human graph with your students using student attributes (hair color, shoe colors, etc). Then, students complete lesson independently or with a partner. Finally, students create their own graph using objects from the classroom.
