How to teach Telling Time
In this 2.MD.7 Second Grade Common Core Lesson, students tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, using a.m. and p.m.
This lesson teaches students how to read time to the nearest five minutes on analog and digital clocks. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.
Label a clock to review before playing dominoes to match analog and digital clocks to their numerical time. Then, students can continue to practice telling and writing time using analog clocks.

You may introduce this lesson by reviewing skip counting by fives using the Have Fun Teaching Counting by Fives song. Then, count by fives to label a the clock with students. Next, pass out dominoes to pairs of students.As students match digital and analog clocks, circulate around the classroom to listen to discussions students have about telling time. After the games are over, share students discussions that you heard to improve time telling skills.
