How to teach Odd and Even Numbers
In this 2.OA.3 Common Core Activity, students determine whether a group of objects (up to 20) has an odd or even number of members.
This lesson teaches students how determine if an group of objects has an odd or even number of members. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice
Students will sort the cards into odd and even categories. Then, students can continue practicing determining if a number is odd or even using the Odd and Even Apple Sheet.

Use this Puppy Odd Even Game as an additional resource for your students.
You may introduce this lesson by talking about pairs and what would happen if someone doesn’t have a pair. You could even ask “What does it mean when I say ‘Odd one out’?”. Next, distribute apple cards to students for practice determining if it is an odd or even amount of apples. As students work, circulate around the classroom to listen to discussions students have about odd and even numbers. After the activity, share students discussions that you heard to improve odd and even skills.
