How to teach Symmetry
In this 4.G.3 Fourth Grade Common Core Lesson, students recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts.
Symmetry will help your students as they create their own art and decorate their house. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.
First, identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry. Then, draw the line of symmetry on each of the shapes. Next,sort the shapes into the Symmetrical and Asymmetrical categories. Finally, continue your practice on the provided worksheets individually or with a partner. Continue the challenge, by completing a shape to make it symmetrical.
