How to teach Angles
In this 4.MD.7 Fourth Grade Common Core lesson, students solve addition and subtraction problems to find unknown angles on a diagram.
This lesson teaches students how to find the known angle using addition or subtraction. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.
First,read the scenario on the activity card. Next, solve by adding or subtracting to find the missing angle. Then, match the angle to its measurement. Finally, write your answer on the recording sheet. Continue your practice with the provided worksheets individually or with a partner.

First, model how to find an unknown angle by subtracting the known angle from 180 degrees. Review with students by having them help you create an anchor chart with clear steps. Next, distribute materials to students. As students work, circulate around the classroom to listen to student discussions. After the activity, share students’ discussions that you heard to promote solving skills. Finally, student can continue their practice using the provided worksheets individually or with a partner.
