How to teach Line Plots
In this 5.MD.2 Fifth Grade Common Core Lesson, students create a line plot to a set of measurements in fractions of a unit.
Students need a lot of practice creating and analyzing line graphs. This worksheet gives students practice with creating and analyzing information presented on a line graph. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.
To play, pick a partner to battle. Each partner gets a line plot mat, “X” cards and fraction cards. First, flip over a task card and read the data. Each player must read the task card. Then, create a line plot using the “X” and fraction cards to represent the data. Next, read and solve the problem written in red at the bottom of the card. Check your answers on the answer sheet. The first person to correctly answer wins a piece of treasure! The partner to collect the most treasure after five rounds wins! Finally, continue your practice with the provided worksheets independently or with a partner.
