### How to teach Adding Fractions

In this 5.NF.1 Fifth Grade Common Core Lesson, students add and subtraction fractions and mixed numbers with uncommon denominators and simplifying answers.

This lesson teaches students how to add and subtract fractions with uncommon denominators. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.

Your goal is to solve these problems by changing the fractions to equivalent fractions with like denominators. First, roll the dice and follow the icon that you land on.  Then, continue playing until you have successfully made four PB&J sandwiches with like denominator equivalent fractions. Next, fill in the recording sheet with your original and new fractions, show your work and solve! Finally, continue your practice with the provided worksheets independently or with a partner.
