How to teach Solve Equations
In this 5.OA.1 Fifth Grade Common Core Lesson, students use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.
This lesson teaches students how to use and evaluate parentheses and brackets in numerical expressions. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice
First, turn over five body-segment number cards and one head-segment number card. Next, using the operations signs, parentheses, and brackets, rearrange the body segments. The solution to the resulting expression should be the head of the caterpillar. Then, record five expressions on the worksheet. Finally, continue your practice with the provided worksheets independently or with a partner.
