How to teach Fractions
UsingFrac Smack Fractions Activity, students playwith a small group to practice identifying the fractions whole, half, third, and fourth.
Identifying fraction sizes is the first step to being able to add and subtract fractions. If your students are able to visualize different fractions, they will be able to conceptualize the size of fractions to compare.
The object of the game is to ‚Äòsmack’ a card that shows the fraction that you are focusing on for that round. Players go around clockwise placing a card in the middle pile. Look at the card that has been put down. If it matches the category card (whole, half, third or fourth), smack it! If it doesn’t match, the next player puts down a card. The fastest player to smack the pile when the correct fraction is shown gets to keep all of the cards! Play continues until one player has won all of the fraction cards.
