Description
How to teach Coordinate Graphing
In this 5.G.2 Fifth Grade Common Core Lesson, students represent real world and mathematical problems by graphing points in the first quadrant of the coordinate plane.
Each set of four points can be connected to make a rectangle. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.
First, match each set of points with its corresponding graph. Then, determine the area and perimeter of each rectangle and record the answers on the worksheet. Finally, continue your practice with the provided worksheets independently or with a partner.

If you are using this lesson, your students are probably learning about Coordinate Graphing.
Use this Finding a State on a Map Worksheet as an additional resource for your students.
First, introduce this activity by reviewing how to locate and write points on a coordinate plane. Next, distribute materials to students. As students work, circulate around the classroom and listen to discussions students have about coordinate graphing. After the activity, share students’ discussions that you heard to promote coordinate graphing skills. Finally, student can continue their practice using the provided worksheets individually or with a partner.
