How to teach Measurement
Using this Units of Measurement Inches Centimeters Activity, students measure the length of an object twice using length units of different lengths for the two measurements.
Being able to measure correctly is an important life skill. This activity gives your students practice measuring to the nearest unit.
Choose an Activity Card. Measure the object in real life using inches and centimeters. Write on the Activity Cards or laminate for extended use.

You may introduce the activity by leading a discussion about how to measure an object correctly. Next, create an anchor chart with tips from your students so they have a reference while they work. Then, students work independently or with a partner to complete the activity. As students measure, make sure to monitor and ask questions so that measurements are correct. Once finished, have students practice estimating the length of objects in the classroom.
