How to teach Ordinal Numbers
Using this Where’s Walter Ordinal Numbers Activity, students describe Walter’s location in line at an amusement park with ordinal numbers to build their number sense skills.
Ordinal numbers are a way for your students to give and follow directions. They help your students locate items and people at home and at school. This activity gives your students practice with ordinal numbers up to 10.
Cut up one of the theme park line-up card sets and place around the room for students to find. There is two differentiated sets available: 1st-5th Ordinal Numbers and 1st-10th Ordinal Numbers. When a card is found, find Walter in the line for the theme park and record his position on the recording sheet. To help, there is a black line placed under Walter for students to find him easier.
