How to teach Beginning and Ending Sounds
Using theBeginning and Ending Sounds Activity, students identify the beginning and ending sounds in common words using picture cards.
Being able to identify the beginning and ending sounds helps students read and write words. This activity gives them practice using common words that they will encounter in their reading.
This activity has ten picture cards. Students say the word aloud that matches the picture. Then, students sound out the beginning and ending sound. Record by coloring in boxes on the recording sheet.

This is a perfect activity for a literacy center, small group, or guided reading. Introduce this activity by reviewing letter sounds using the Have Fun Teaching What Do the Letters Say Song. Then, have students practice finding the beginning and ending letter sounds individually or with a partner. Once students are finished, have them draw their own pictures and tell the beginning and ending sounds.
