How to teach Word Families

Using Making New Words Worksheet, students make new words using word families and beginning letter sounds.

Word Families help your students learn how to find patterns in sounds in their reading. These worksheets helps your students distinguish between real words and made up words that they can make.

Students make new words using the rimes ate, ock, and est. Then, make new words adding new initial sounds.

Finally, students think of other words that could be made with the rimes from the worksheet.  Challenge students to write sentences using the Letter U words from the worksheet.
