How to teach After Reading Discussion
Using the After Reading Discussion Cards Activity, students actively engage in group reading activities to discuss purpose and understanding after shared reading.
Being able to interact with the text that they are reading will help your students to gain a better understanding of what they have read. This activity will help your students as they read independently.
Your students can choose one of the twelve after reading discussion cards to use after they have read. They can either engage in a written response or a discussion with a partner.

Introduce these discussion cards by having students share about their favorite books. Next, students read independently or with a small group. Then, students choose discussion cards to discuss the text with a partner or small group. Finally, students share important details of what occurred during their discussion. Once finished, students can write more about the text using the Reading Response Journal.
