Using Author’s Purpose Worksheet, students identify the reasons an author gives to support points in a text.
Understanding the reason why an author wrote a text supports your students’ comprehension as they read. This worksheet gives them the opportunity to match the descriptions to each reason why an author writes.
Choose two stories to read. Next, think about what is the reason the author wrote the story. Then, use text evidence is in the story to support your choice.
If you are using this worksheet, your students are probably learning about author’s purpose.
Use this Author’s Purpose and Supporting Evidence Worksheet as an additional resource for your students.
Introduce this worksheet by listening to the Have Fun Teaching Author’s Purpose Song. Next, students share what they know about author’s purpose. Then, students complete the worksheet individually or with a partner. Finally, students share about the authors and illustrators they learned about. Once finished, students read other books to determine the reason why the author wrote it.
