How to teach Characters’ Feelings
Using Feeling Words Activity, students read Amy Goes to First Grade to find words and phrases that describe Amy’s feelings on the first day of school.
The characters your students read about have lots of the same feelings as your students. This activity will help your students identify feelings that characters have in different situations.
Students read Amy Goes to First Grade. Then, students find examples of different situations where Amy has a new feeling.

Introduce this activity byreviewing emotions using the Emotions Flash Cards. Next, students share times that they felt those same emotions. Then, students complete the activity independently or with a partner. Finally, students share what they discussed with their partner. Once finished, students find other examples of feelings in the books they are reading.
