How to teach Informational Texts

Using Reading Informational Texts Book Review Activity, students read and comprehend informational texts, including history/social studies, science, and technical texts.

Reading multiple genres will help your students to broaden their horizons. This activity will help your students as they read informational texts.

Students will reflect on the informational texts they have read using the template. Then, they share about books that they have read.

Use this Don't Wake the Librarian Sorting Book Genre Activity as an additional resource for your students.

Introduce this activity by asking students to share the books that they have read this year. Create a list of books on an anchor chart that your class has read this year.  Then, students complete the activity independently or with a partner. Finally, students share about the books that they have read. Once finished, have new informational books for students to sample and read together.
