How to teach Summarizing
Using Retell the Story Activity,students read “Floppy Ears” aloud to students and then use the question chart to assess students ability to retell the story.
Being able determine the summarize text that you are reading helps your students understand what they have read. This activity will help your student to make sure that they retell a full story.

Introduce this activity by reading a short book. Next, students share what happened first, next, then, and finally. Then, have students complete the activity independently or with a partner. Finally, students share their summary of their text. Once finished, students continue practicing reading their own texts and summarizing.
