How to teach Research
Using Color Me Curious Research Writing Activity, students participate in shared research and writing projects to learn about any topic.
Being able to conduct and present research is a difficult skill for our students. Often, students copy the research and take it as their own. We want to help our students to be good researchers. This activity will help your students create meaningful research on important topics.
Choose a colored set of cards. Choose one topic card (rectangle) and three to four aspect cards (oval). Write the card labels on a graphic organizer. Research details about each aspect of your topic and write the information in your own words.

Introduce this activity by asking students what they have questions about. Next, students share what they know about states from the song. Then, distribute the activity materials so students can begin their writing. Students then begin researching about topics of their choice. Once finished using the graphic organizers, students can write more about each topic. Finally, students can share their writing through a gallery walk or other presentation. Students can use post-its to write facts that they learned from their classmates’ research.
