Description
How to teach Measurements
Using this Measurement Conversion Activity, students demonstrate knowledge of relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units, including km, m, and cm; kg, g, lb, and oz; L and ML; hr, min, and sec. Students will also demonstrate their understanding of how to convert measurements as larger or smaller units.
There are many different ways that we describe measurement. This activity challenges your students to figure out two units that are the same.
Students use the Conversion Poster to convert measurement units in their own personal Measurement Book. This activity will benefit your students for years to come, as they can use it when measuring a variety of objects in the real world, including time.

Introduce this activity by sharing different measurements of time, weight, volume, and length. Next, ask students how many inches are in a foot, yard, etc. Then, students complete activity independently or with a partner. Finally, challenge your students to convert the different measurements in the book a unit larger than was originally given.
