How to use this STEAM Activity
This How Much Will It Absorb Diaper STEAM Activity includes all the learning components: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
Your students will have so much for learning about the mechanics of how diapers work and absorb liquids. They will have the opportunity to work through the scientific method, listen to the Scientific Method Song, complete the math conversion worksheet, and design and build their own diaper!
In order to do this STEAM Activity, you will need the following items: 2 Clean Diapers, 1 Clear Jar, 1 Tablespoon, 1 Clear Measuring Cup, 1 Strainer with Small Holes, and Food Coloring.
Diapers contain an absorbing polymer called Sodium Polyacrylate, which can absorb up to 800 times its own weight in water. When the liquid touches this substance, the polymer chains link together and attract the liquid.
