How to teach Citing Evidence
Using this Why oh Why Story Details Activity, students answer the questions “What happened?” and “why did it happen?” while citing their textual evidence.
Being able to interact with the text that they are reading will help your students to gain a better understanding of what they have read. This activity will help your students as they read independently.
Students will start by reading “A New Car” before using the “Why, Oh Why?” graphic organizer to pull information from the text to tell three events that happened and why they happened.

Then, students complete the activity independently or with a partner. Once finished, students use the graphic organizer to write a cohesive paper.
