How to teach Writing
Using Get Ready to Write Activity, students write routinely over extended time frames and shorter time frames for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.
To become good writers, our students must write as much as possible. Figuring out the topic is often difficult for students. These prompt cards will help your students write on topics that interest them.
Choose a Topic Card. Then, students use the topic cards to write more about the topic.
Other resources to use with this Get Ready to Write Activity
If you are using this activity, your students are probably learning about a variety of writing topics.
Use this Let’s Write RAFT Writing Activity as an additional resource for your students.
Introduce this activity by giving students sentence starters to talk with their partner about. Examples of this could be “I like to eat ….” or “My favorite toy to play with is..” Next, students talk on that sentence starter for one minute without stopping. Then, distribute the activity materials so students can begin their writing. Finally, students read their pieces to a partner for feedback. Once finished, students can share their writing through a gallery walk or other presentation. These prompts are perfect for a writing center, early finishers, or writing homework. Your students will be engaged as they write on topics that interest them.
