How to teach Vocabulary
Using L.3.3 Third Grade Common Core Lesson, students demonstrate an understanding of how to change their language if writing or speaking depending on the audience.
This lesson teaches students how that they need to write differently than they speak. This lesson is perfect for small group, literacy centers or independent practice.
Sort words and phrases into spoken and written categories. Then, students will decide how the words were sorted into the different categories. Finally, students will continue their practice using the provided worksheets.

Introduce this lesson by asking students to give examples of how they would say hi to different people (the principal, their friends, a baby, etc). Next, engage in a discussion about why people change the way they speak depending on who they talk to. Then, students complete activity independently or with a partner. Finally, students continue their practice using the provided worksheets.
