About this resource
Description
Division is where multiplication finally pays off, and this Christmas division worksheet gives 4th grade students a festive place to practice it. Each problem asks students to divide a two- or three-digit whole number by a one-digit divisor, write the quotient above the bar, and show the work that got them there. Because the page keeps the long division notation students already meet in class, the holiday theme adds fun without changing the math they are accountable for.
Start by working problem one together on the board so students can see where the quotient belongs and how the work lines up underneath it. Then let students finish Part A independently while you circulate. Part B moves the same skill into two word problems, including a multi-step problem and one that produces a remainder, and Part C asks students to explain in writing what should happen to the leftover cookies. That written explanation is the part that shows you who truly understands division and who is only following steps. An answer key is included on the last page for quick checking or student self-correction.
What’s Included
- Six long division problems with two- and three-digit dividends and one-digit divisors
- Two Christmas word problems, one multi-step and one with a remainder to interpret
- A written response question about what a remainder means in a real situation
- Room to show work under every problem
- A complete answer key on the final page
This Christmas math division practice helps kids in three ways. First, it builds accuracy, because every problem divides evenly and gives students a clean check on their work. Second, it builds transfer, since the word problems ask students to decide which numbers to divide before they compute anything. Third, it builds reasoning, because interpreting a remainder in a cookie tin is a very different task from writing “R2” and moving on.
Teachers can use this christmas division worksheet as a December warm up, a math center task, an early finisher page, or a quick formative check before winter break. Parents and homeschool families can use it as a low-stress review over the holidays, working one part a day instead of the whole page at once. If a student struggles with the remainder problem, hand them eight small containers and a pile of counters and let them act it out before writing anything down.
