About this resource

Description

Single digit multiplication is the bridge between skip counting and real multiplication fluency, and third graders need to reach for those facts without stopping to count on their fingers. This Matching Multiplication Single Digit Worksheet gives them three different ways to practice the same set of facts on one clean page, so the products start to feel familiar instead of forced. When a student can look at 6 × 9 and answer 54 right away, every later skill — long multiplication, division, fractions, area — gets easier.

This 3rd grade multiplication worksheet is built for independent work. In Part A students draw a line from each multiplication problem to its product, which pushes them to check their answer against a set of choices rather than guess. Part B is straight computation: six problems to solve, with a wide line for writing the product. Part C brings the facts into the real world with two ice cream shop story problems, including one two-step problem that asks students to multiply and then subtract. Print it as morning work, homework, a math center rotation, or a quick check before a timed fact test.

What’s Included

  • 1 print-ready PDF worksheet
  • Answer key
  • 13 activities: 5 matching problems, 6 multiplication problems to solve, and 2 word problems

There are three reasons this Matching Multiplication Single Digit Worksheet helps kids learn. First, it practices one skill three ways, so a student who is shaky on a fact meets it again in a new format instead of repeating the same drill. Second, the matching section is scrambled on purpose — the answers do not run down the page in order, so students have to actually multiply instead of pairing the first problem with the first number. Third, the word problems ask students to decide which operation to use, which is the step most third graders miss on a test.

Teachers and parents can stretch this practice past the page. Roll two dice and race to say the product before your partner. Build arrays with cereal, buttons, or blocks and count them two ways. Sing a skip counting song and clap on every product. Post a fact of the day on the fridge and see how many times someone can use it. Have students write their own ice cream shop story problem and trade with a partner to solve.
