Michigan students take the M-STEP in the spring. ELA and math are tested in grades 3–7, while grade 8 takes the PSAT 8/9 instead. Science and social studies are tested in grades 5 and 8. Spring 2027 testing runs in the weeks of April 5, 2027.

Good to know
Students must take the M-STEP for the grade they are enrolled in. Math is available in a stacked Spanish form.
High school: Michigan gives the PSAT 8/9 (grades 8–9), PSAT 10 (grade 10) and SAT (grade 11) through the College Board, plus the WIN Work Readiness Assessments in grade 11.
K–2: There is no required K–2 state test; MDE offers optional K–2 early literacy and math benchmark assessments, and districts choose their own K–3 literacy screeners.
