Wisconsin students take the Forward Exam online each spring. It covers ELA and math in grades 3–8, science in grades 4 and 8, and social studies in grades 4, 8 and 10. High school students also take the PreACT Secure in grades 9–10 and the ACT with writing in grade 11.
High school: PreACT Secure is given in grades 9 and 10 (window March 8–April 16, 2027), and the ACT with writing in grade 11 (window 1 is March 9–19, 2027).
K–2: Wisconsin has no statewide K–2 summative test; Act 20 requires early literacy screening from 4K through grade 3 with a screener chosen by DPI.

What’s the difference between the editions?
