Multiplying a three-digit number by a two-digit number is where the standard algorithm finally has to carry its own weight. A student who can already recall facts and multiply by one digit now has to keep two partial products in place value order, remember the placeholder zero in the tens row, and add the two rows together without losing a regrouped digit along the way. This 2×3 digit multiplication worksheet gives fifth graders room to practise all three moves on the same page, one problem at a time, so the algorithm becomes a routine they trust rather than a sequence they half-remember.
This 3 digit by 2 digit multiplication worksheet is a two-page printable. Page one opens with six vertical problems, each set inside its own work box with the multiplicand, the multiplier and the equation bar already printed and plenty of clear space beneath for the partial products and the final total. Part B follows with two real-world word problems that ask students to pull the numbers out of a sentence before they multiply.
