How to teach Multiplication

In this 5.NBT.5 Fifth Grade Common Core Lesson, students fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using a standard algorithm.

Being able to multiply multi-digit numbers is an essential skill for your students. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.

The object of this game is to fill in squares on your MINGO board. First, pick a group of friends to play with and each select a game board. Then, take turns being the MINGO problem caller. Next, choose a game task card, which will tell you what type of MINGO game you are playing (ex. straight line, four corners, T, or X). The caller chooses a multiplication monster card. Players write the down the problem on the recording sheet and solve. If the answer is present on your game board, cover it with a Mingo chip. Game continues until one player has filled in the designated squares for that round. Finally, continue your practice with the provided worksheets independently or with a partner.
