Bugs are everywhere a child looks, and a jar and a net turn a backyard into a science lab. This Catching Bugs – Reading Comprehension Worksheet takes that curiosity and turns it into reading practice: first graders read a short how-to passage about catching an insect, looking at it closely, and letting it go again, then answer questions about what they read.
The worksheet opens with a bright colored pencil picture of a bug catching kit on the grass, followed by a four paragraph nonfiction passage. Students read the passage, then answer five multiple choice questions by filling in the bubble next to the best answer. Every answer is right there in the text, so children practice going back to the page and pointing to their evidence instead of guessing. Read it together the first time, then let students reread on their own before they answer. The complete answer key is on the last page.
