About this resource

Description

Father’s Day is one of the first holidays young children learn to celebrate, and a Happy Father’s Day poster gives your classroom a warm, joyful way to mark it. Preschool children notice a holiday long before they can read about it, so the room itself does much of the teaching. A bright picture of a child handing Dad a homemade card tells the whole story at a glance, and the words printed above it give you something to point to and read aloud together. That simple routine builds print awareness, holiday vocabulary, and the idea that special days are worth celebrating with the people who take care of us.

This Happy Father’s Day poster is a full-color, print-ready page you can hang on a classroom door, a bulletin board, a hallway display, or the wall above your writing center. Print it on regular paper or card stock, or enlarge it at a copy shop for a big display. Read the greeting with your class, then read the six trait words together and invite children to tell you which one sounds like their own dad, grandpa, uncle, or another grown-up who cares for them. This Father’s Day classroom poster also works beautifully at home, taped to the fridge on the morning of the big day.

What’s Included

  • 1 print-ready PDF poster
  • A full-color Father’s Day illustration
  • Six character-trait words to read together

A Happy Father’s Day poster helps young learners in three ways. First, it puts holiday words in front of children every single day of the week you are celebrating, which is exactly how new vocabulary sticks at this age. Second, the picture gives children a shared reference point for talking, drawing, and dictating their own ideas about family, so your Father’s Day writing and art activities start with something everyone has already seen. Third, the six trait words turn a decoration into a small character lesson, giving you kind, brave, and caring language to reuse all year long.

Try a few of these ideas alongside the poster. Ask each child to choose one word from the poster and finish the sentence “My dad is…” out loud while you write it down. Hang the poster above a table of blank cards so children can make their own Father’s Day gifts underneath it. Take a class photo in front of it to send home. Add sticky notes around the edges with other words the class thinks of, or graph which trait word the class chose most often. At home, let your child point to the words and “read” the poster to Dad.
