The Louisiana Purchase of 1803 is one of the turning points every young American historian needs to know, and this Louisiana Purchase Worksheet gives students a clear way in. In a single deal, the United States bought roughly 828,000 square miles from France for 15 million dollars and more than doubled the size of the country. Understanding that moment means understanding why the port of New Orleans mattered so much to western farmers, why Napoleon was willing to sell, and how the new land stretched from the Mississippi River all the way to the Rocky Mountains.
