This Major General Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives fourth graders a lively nonfiction passage about one of the fastest songs ever written. Students learn where the famous Major-General’s Song came from, why it makes audiences laugh, and how singers practice a song packed with long, tricky words. Along the way they practice the reading comprehension skills they need on every test: finding the main idea, using context to define new words, and following the order of steps in a text.
The passage runs across two pages, with a bright stage illustration on the first page. After reading, students answer four multiple-choice questions that ask about cause and effect, vocabulary in context, sequence, and the main idea. A written response then asks them to name two practice steps from the text and explain how those steps could help them with a hard task of their own. The last page is an answer key with a sample written answer.
