Description
This solving multiplication word problems worksheet gives fourth graders four real-world word problems that each hide a first step. Students multiply to find the total in a set of equal groups, then add or subtract to reach the final answer. The problems include a two-digit by two-digit product, a times-as-many comparison, and a problem where students add before they multiply, so no two items can be solved the same way.
Each problem sits in its own card with a shaded work box underneath, so students have room to write both equations and label the answer. A short strategy panel at the top reminds them to look for the hidden first step. The settings are ones children know: chairs set out for a school music show, a class apple-picking trip, a week of reading, and a busy weekend at a bakery. The answer key on page two shows both steps for every problem with the labeled answer.
