Description
This minnesota word search worksheet turns six real Minnesota words into a puzzle students actually have to think about. Third graders hunt for canoe, iron, lake, loon, pine, and prairie in an eleven by eleven letter grid, then use the same six words to finish six definition sentences. The words are not decoration: each one names something true about Minnesota, from the loons that call across northern lakes to the iron dug out of the state’s mines, so the puzzle doubles as a vocabulary lesson about the North Star State.
Part A is the word search itself. The six box words are hidden across, down, and diagonally, so students have to scan the grid in more than one direction instead of reading straight lines. Part B is where the thinking happens. Each numbered sentence gives a bold clue word and a blank, and students choose the box word whose meaning matches. Because the answers do not run in the order the box lists them, students cannot pair the first blank with the first word. A full answer key on page two shows every circled word in the grid and every completed sentence.
