Learning about the fifty states helps children see how big and varied our country is. This Washington worksheet introduces students to the Evergreen State through a short, easy-to-read passage and questions that send them back to the text for every answer.
Students read an original non-fiction passage about Washington: where it sits in the far northwest, when it joined the country, how it got its name, why its evergreen forests earned its nickname, and why its orchards grow more apples than any other state. Then they answer four multiple-choice questions, including a vocabulary item on the word orchard, and write a short response that explains the nickname with two details from the passage. A full-color picture of a snowy peak above the forest brings the reading to life.
