About this resource
Description
Weather is the first science a child ever notices, and putting words to it is where real earth science begins. This weather matching worksheet asks first grade students to connect four everyday weather words to what they actually mean, then to use those words in sentences about ordinary days. Naming the weather accurately is the foundation for everything that follows: describing patterns, recording observations, and eventually explaining why the sky does what it does.
This printable weather matching worksheet puts that vocabulary work on one clean page. In Part A, students draw a line from each weather word to a short sentence describing it. The meanings are deliberately scrambled, so a child has to read each description and think about it rather than matching straight down the page. In Part B, six sentences describe things we do in different weather, and students write the word that finishes each one on a wide handwriting line. Two of the sentences point back to words the child already matched in Part A, which turns recognition into recall. A colored pencil illustration of a tree bending in the wind, with a kite overhead and leaves blowing past, shows what a windy day looks like. Print it, hand it out, and check the work in seconds with the included answer key.
What’s Included
- One printable 1st Grade worksheet on everyday weather vocabulary
- Part A: four weather words to match to their scrambled meanings
- Part B: six sentences to finish with the right weather word
- A colored pencil illustration of a windy day for visual support
- A complete answer key on the final page
Three Reasons This Helps Kids
- Matching a word to its meaning builds precise science vocabulary instead of vague description.
- Finishing a sentence forces a child to apply the word, which is a far stronger test of understanding than recognizing it.
- Everyday weather connects directly to what students can walk outside and observe, so the learning does not stay on the page.
Teacher and Parent Ideas
- Use this first grade weather worksheet to launch a weather unit, then keep a class chart of the weather word that fits each morning.
- Ask students to add a fifth word of their own, such as cloudy or foggy, and write a sentence for it on the back.
- Send it home and have families watch a forecast together, listening for the four words.
- Pair it with a weather picture sort in a science center so students match words to photographs as well as to meanings.
