A child’s own name is the first word they ever learn to write, and it is the one word they will write more than any other. Getting the letters in the right order, seated on the line, with a capital at the front and lowercase letters after it, takes real practice. This write and draw your name worksheet gives kindergarten children three full three-line handwriting guides to practice on, then a big open frame to draw themselves in, so the page ends with something they are proud to hang up.
The three guides are sized for kindergarten hands: a solid topline, a dashed midline at the x-height, and a solid baseline, with a full writing band between them. A child writes their first name once on each guide, so each attempt is a little steadier than the last. Then they draw a picture of themselves in the frame underneath. Use this back to school worksheet on the first morning of the year, as a name-practice station, as a get-to-know-you activity, or as the cover page of a portfolio. Because every answer is the child’s own, there is no answer key and nothing to grade.

There are three reasons this write and draw your name worksheet helps children learn the skill.
