How to teach Money
Using A Dime A Dozen Counting Dimes Activity, students practice counting dimes amount by playing a “Go Fish” inspired game.
Knowing how to count dimes is an important skill for students to learn. This activity gives students an opportunity to practice counting dimes while playing a “Go Fish” inspired game.
First, take turns asking each other if they either have a number of dimes or a cents amount (ex. Do you have 4 dimes? Do you have 40 cents?) Language can be differentiated depending on student level. If the player has the matching amount, the card is handed to the player and a match is made. If the player does not have the requested amount, player explains “GoFish” and the other player takes a card from the middle pile. When one player collects a dozen eggs the game is over. If cards run out, the player with the most eggs in their carton wins !
