The first days of a new school year are all about getting to know one another, and nothing opens that door faster than letting children talk about themselves. This All About Me Fill in the Blanks Worksheet gives 2nd grade students a friendly, low-pressure way to introduce themselves in writing — their name, their school, the subject they love, the book they cannot put down, and the person they hope to become one day. Because every response comes from the child, there are no wrong answers here, only sentences that are completely their own.
The worksheet is a single printable page built around seven sentence starters and a large self-portrait frame. Hand it out on the first morning, read the sentence starters aloud together, then give students time to finish each one on the generous solid writing lines. When the writing is done, they draw themselves inside the frame. Used as a back to school all about me activity, it doubles as an instant bulletin-board display: post the finished pages side by side and the whole class can read about their new classmates at a glance.

This All About Me Fill in the Blanks Worksheet helps children in three ways. First, it builds writing confidence: finishing a sentence someone else started is far less intimidating than facing a blank page, so even reluctant writers produce complete, correct sentences. Second, it strengthens classroom community, because the responses hand teachers and classmates real conversation starters — a shared favorite book, a shared hobby, a shared goal. Third, it gives you an early writing sample. The handwriting, spelling, and sentence length a student produces here tell you a great deal about where to begin instruction, and none of it feels like a test.
Try a few extensions once the pages are finished. Turn the sheet into a guessing game by reading responses aloud without names and letting the class guess the writer. Send a second copy home so a parent or grandparent fills one out, then compare the two. Tuck the page into a portfolio and print the same sheet again in May so students can see how much their handwriting and their answers changed over the year. You can also pair it with a partner interview: students swap papers, read each other’s sentences, and then introduce their partner to the class.
