About this resource
Description
Knowing every letter by name, in both its capital and small form, is the first big step toward reading. These alphabet flash cards show each letter pair side by side in clear, classic print letters, so young learners see the two forms of a letter as one set. Preschool through 2nd grade students can use them to learn, review and practice letter names until they are quick and sure.
The set holds 26 single-sided cards, one for each letter from A to Z, in large black print that is easy to see from across a table or a small group circle. Hold up a card, point to the big letter and the small letter, and say each name together. A short practice worksheet asks children to say two letters in a row and circle the letter that comes next, so they also practice alphabet order.
What’s Included
- A colorful cover page
- A How to Use page with materials, prep, steps and extension ideas
- 26 letter cards, capital and small letter on each card, six per sheet
- A Kindergarten practice worksheet: circle the letter that comes next
- A letter card list and a practice answer key
Why Kids Love It
- Big, bold letters are easy for little eyes to read.
- Seeing both forms together helps children match capital and small letters.
- The cards work for quick drills, games and a classroom word wall.
Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Use these alphabet flash cards for a quick morning drill, in a literacy center or at home before bedtime. Mix up the cards and have children put them back in A to Z order, or hide a few cards around the room for a letter hunt. Ask children to say a word that starts with each letter they find. These preschool alphabet flash cards pair well with the resources below for more letter practice.
